Ever been to a Filipino birthday party?

Compared to other Filo parties I've been to, the amount of food on this table isn't much. :P The food at this party was pretty good, had some new things I've never seen at Filo parties, but it also missed some foods that I thought were Filo party staples.

Here we have:

  • Sandwiches (two kinds: egg and cheese pimiento)
  • Lychee and almond jelly
  • Cassava cake (..it's like..I can't explain it. Google or try it yourself.)
  • Ensaymada (my high school friends loved this 'sugar bread' at my 16th birthday, and I think they still do :P It's basically just a sweet bread, topped with a bit of glaze, sugar and often a bit of grated cheese.)
  • Bread rolls and butter (hidden)
  • Vol-au-vents
  • A huge-ass ham
  • Macaroni (OMG this was so good. I went back for seconds, thirds, and I think I stopped at 28ths.
  • Empanada (a Spanish pastry filled with bits of chicken, peas and other stuff mashed together)
  • Ube birthday cake (ube is a purple yam. Dunno what it really looks like but it's used in so many Filipino desserts and I like it.)
  • aaand last but not least, the chocolate fountain. With strawberries, waffles and marshmallows. *dies*

What it could've had:

  • Lechon! (suckling pig)
  • Rice
  • Puto (steamed rice cake)
  • Spaghetti with sausage (the macaroni made up for it though)
  • Leche flan! (dessert similar to creme caramel but creamier and sweeter and better)
  • Palabok (thick rice noodles)
  • Pancit (vermicelli stir fry..I think)
